We can’t believe we have had our second Christmas and New Year at Lingholm as it has gone so fast! Things certainly look a little different to a year ago although the building work is still underway so the festive season only brought a temporary reprieve.
The big news this month is we have decided once the renovations are complete to hire out the private area of the main house for holiday or wedding guests. This will include five bedrooms, the kitchen, dining room, lounge and hallway. This will give guests a chance to experience the grandeur of the house and it will be wonderful for large family groups as well as wedding guests to enjoy the full magic of Lingholm.
The original features in the house are simply stunning. The ornately carved fireplaces, oak-panelled rooms, sweeping staircase and even the original wallpaper in the hallway all add to its charm. The views from the main kitchen and lounge across the garden and down to the lake and the fells beyond are breathtaking. It is a perfect setting for meals with family and friends and the house will provide the setting for memorable holidays and events.
As the renovations continue in the main house, we are also starting work on Rose Trees. This is a separate house near the lake shore that has six bedrooms. It can sleep 12 people as each of the bedrooms are large. Rose Trees only needs a light refurbishment to return it to its full Victorian splendour. This house also has beautiful views of the lake, surrounding fells and towards the main house and gardens. We are planning on both the private area of the main house and Rose Trees to be completed by late spring ready for summer bookings.
We are really looking forward to a busy and hopefully successful 2015 as Lingholm really starts to come into its own with most of the major structural work completed. We can then start to focus more on the gardens and trying to progress our plans for a cafe in the grounds (a fixed location cafe to complement the VW Campervan on the Cumbria Way).
We are hoping the winter will bring more snow to the fells as they look just as (if not more) beautiful in the winter when they are snow-capped as they do in the warm summer sun.
We wish a Happy New Year to all our holiday guests, past, present and future and to all those who are just following our renovation journey on this blog. We will continue to keep you updated in 2015!
