Keswick & The Local Area

The Estate is situated on the shores of Derwentwater in the heart of the Northern Lake District. Boasting incredible views of some of the best known fells and in an area of outstanding natural beauty, from every point around the lake marvellous views await, you can walk, cycle, drive, or for the best views of all take the famous Keswick Launch.

With the open fells of Catbells and Causey Pike within a few minutes’ walk, Derwentwater at the bottom of the garden and the bustling tourist town of Keswick being just 5 minutes away by car or a 35 minute walk, there is something for everyone in this vibrant part of the lakes. Borrowdale can be reached in around an hour by foot and is well worth exploring, particularly the pretty village of Grange and the remarkable Bowder Stone.

On the east side of the lake the much photographed Ashness Bridge, Surprise View and the remote hamlet of Watendlath are among just a few of the local treasures.

Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere are all within a 40 minute car drive and nearer to home being only a 20 minute drive away the quaint market town of Cockermouth is well worth a visit for its architecture, antique shops, castle and Wordsworth House.

Among popular local attractions are Whinlatter Forest, the Keswick Climbing Wall (both great for kids), Great Dodd woods, Mirehouse, the Lakes Distillery, the Pencil Museum, the Rheged Centre (both ideal if it is raining) and the Honister Slate Mine. In short, there is always something to do.
