Lingholm cares deeply about protecting and nurturing our environment and local community. We are committed to being as environmentally friendly as possible, using sustainable practices and buying local to ensure continued enjoyment of the Lake District for future generations. We invest in our staff and the local community so we can grow together.
Here are some of the steps we have taken to ensure we are doing our bit –
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- We use refillable bottles for our washroom and cleaning products across the Estate to reduce the amount of plastic we use.
- We donate many of our pre-loved soft furnishings and furniture to local charities or members of staff so nothing goes to landfill.
- We encourage our guests to recycle their waste by providing them with bags to separate their paper, card, glass, tins and compost.
- The Lingholm Kitchen no longer uses single use consumables, we offer customers a range of incentives to be more mindful when visiting, for example filling up their water bottles at our water station or using keep cups for hot drinks.
Lighting, Heating, Electricity and Water
- Low energy light bulbs are used across the Estate wherever possible.
- All lights in communal or outdoor areas are either on a timer or are triggered by a sensor.
- All our heating and hot water is powered by a biomass boiler.
- We have a four charging points for our guests that drive electric vehicles.
- Smart meters have been installed where possible.
- We operate a property close down procedure to ensure that energy is not being wasted while properties are not occupied.
- Aerated low flow shower heads have been fitted wherever possible.
- All our toilets are fitted with a dual flush.
- The gardeners use rainwater butts for watering their potted plants in our greenhouses. Luckily for us, external watering can be kept to a minimum as the Lake District weather gives us a helping hand!
- The Lingholm Kitchen harvests rainwater in underground tanks which is then used to flush the café toilets.
Cleaning Products
- We have replaced our cleaning products with eco-friendly equivalents across the Estate (and they are refillable too!)
Let’s Get Local
- If we can’t grow it or make it ourselves, we try to source things as locally as possible. Our milk comes from a farm in Penruddock and the refillable hand soaps we use are made 40 minutes down the road in Staveley.
- We try to support as many other local businesses as we can, from supplying a range of independent retailers’ products in our gift shop to recommending the best pubs for a pint after a long walk! Every little bit helps support the local economy.
- Throughout the year we support local charity and community groups with events and residential trips.
