Wild Swimming

The Estate has a private lake shore that’s perfect for wild swimming. A pretty jetty with a ladder makes it easy to get into the cool, refreshing water, which is great for your health. Cold water swimming can improve circulation, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost your immune system. Jumping off the jetty is a favourite activity for all ages. Whether you want a relaxing swim or an exhilarating plunge, this peaceful spot invites you to enjoy the natural beauty and benefits of wild swimming.

If you’re new to wild swimming and feel a bit nervous, we can recommend some local swimming experts for a guided swim. We always suggest using a bright tow float when swimming in the lake (there can be a lot of boats during peak seasons) and never swimming alone!

Walking

In the Keswick area and the Northern Lakes, walkers can explore some of the famous Wainwright fells, making their hiking adventures even more exciting. From the well-known peaks of Skiddaw and Blencathra to the stunning beauty of Catbells and Helvellyn, these fells offer a variety of landscapes and challenges for everyone. Guests can enjoy following the paths detailed by Alfred Wainwright, whose guides to the Lake District fells have inspired many outdoor enthusiasts.

For those who prefer easier walks, there are plenty of scenic routes through picturesque valleys, peaceful woodlands, and along serene lakeshores. These gentle strolls let you enjoy the region’s natural beauty without the hard climb. Whether it’s a walk along the shores of Derwentwater or a quiet wander in Whinlatter Forest, there are many enchanting low-level walks for visitors of all ages and abilities.

With walking maps available in our Hobby Hut, visitors can set off on their own Wainwright-inspired journeys and soak in the beauty of this magical area.
